Not only does she sit at the helm as co-owner of Jade Asian Bistro & Bar, but doubles as its general manager and bar server at its Asian-inspired bar. Here, she creates the best in customized craft cocktails and welcomes each diner by name every night.

With a background in culinary arts, the Singapore native then offers her suggestion — or “bartender’s choice” — for the evening’s “exotic” drink that she says will best accompany the restaurant’s diverse Asian fusion cuisine.

In fact, we visited the eatery on the last night of Chinese New Year — “Year of the Rat” — and observed Chow toasting to health, success and prosperity together with her steady diners.

THE CUISINE AND DECOR

Asian Fusion is characterized by ingredients not only found in traditional Asian dishes, but in other cuisines as well. It’s really more about experimenting with different flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques — in order to create an unusual and innovative menu.

And though seasonal dishes reflect elements of the diverse cultures of Asia, true Asian fusion pays tribute to traditions and techniques of countries like Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan —  just to mention a few. But at the same time, it intermingles a hint of American cuisine along the way.

FYI: Asian Fusion has been around for a long time in other countries, but it wasn’t until the 1960s that it became popular in the United States. And since that time, it’s really taken off.

THE MENU

“During the winter months people enjoy more spicy dishes,” says Chow, “such as our Broth of Tom Yum, Thai spicy and sour soup with shrimp and rice angel hair noodles and our Malaysian Curry Broth."

“Here we never use corn starch or MSG,” Chow continues. “And we never use bucket sauces, but rather prepare our fresh dipping sauces separately to accompany every dish. And you can even ask for your individual sauce on the side. We prepare one for each diner. We customize our dishes according to our customers’ needs. And we use only fresh vegetables, and never from a can.”
