It's the first weekend of February and we aren't talking about snow or brutal cold. Instead, we're tracking near-record warmth and we even got to see a few hours of sunshine today.
While clouds quickly filled in again this afternoon, we still have some chances to see more sunshine this weekend.
We will also continue to see some warm temperatures for early February. The record warmest low temperature for February 1 is 31 degrees. So far today, Eau Claire has made it down to 32, so we could break or tie that record if temperatures stay above 31 until midnight.
The record warmest low for February 2 is also 31 degrees, and with a forecast low of 31, we could tie that record too depending on how cold it gets overnight and how fast temperatures drop after sunset Sunday.
As for Sunday afternoon, the record high is 47. While it is possible temperatures could spike that high, we will most likely end up a few degrees shy of the record. How warm temperatures get will ultimately depend on how much sunshine we see.
Sunday will likely feature a mix of clouds and sun, which should allow temperatures to get into the low to mid 40s. It will also be a breezy day. There is a Wind Advisory in effect to our north, but in the Chippewa Valley we could see gusts up to 30 mph.
Unfortunately, the spring-like warmth won't last. Highs will likely be in the low 30s Monday, and low 20s through the middle of the week. Lows are expected to be in the low teens and single digits through the middle of the week, but keep in mind average lows in early February are only in the single digits.
There is the slight chance for some light snow toward the middle of the week and closer to Friday. Aside from the possibility of some flurries and light snow, it should be another fairly quiet week.
