TEMPLE, (KWTX) The City of Temple is temporarily changing the formula used to disinfect the city’s water and that may change the way the water taste and smells.
Temple spokeswoman Laurie Simmons says the city is removing the ammonia in the formula to flush out any bacteria in the pipes.
Officials say the change in formula will give the water a different smell and taste, but say the water will still be safe to drink.
“This is done as a preventative measure to make sure we are keeping our water as clean as possible for our residents,” Simmons said.
The flush out process will only last for 28 days starting Feb. 1.
Simmons says it may hit different parts of the city at different times.
“It takes a while for the water to be distributed throughout the city so it may affect some residents sooner than it will affect others,” Simmons said.
