4th annual Taste of ARE exposes students and families to the world's cultures - WBNG-TV

VESTAL (WBNG) -- African Road Elementary in Vestal held their 4th annual Taste of A.R.E. event Tuesday evening.

Lining the walls of the school cafeteria were booths representing more than 20 countries from more than 20 families.

The booths were put together by the students and their families of those nationalities, representing their heritage through photographs, maps, art, clothing, and of course food.

"We show them our stuff and then they're like 'hey you want to come and see our table? And then we get to see like theirs," says 5th grader Ananta Banerjee. "And then they learn, we learn, it's a win win for all."

African Road Elementary says nights like these are important to celebrate the diversity of the students, and to feel part of a global community, even just within the walls of the school.
